摘要
埔基1985年成立財團法人，1995年興建現代化醫療大樓和宿舍。1999年遭遇九二一大地震之後，在複雜急變的時代中，為著生存並肩負醫療使命，除了維持本身的獨立自主，也延伸與各種醫療機構、協力廠商和基督教醫院有更實際合作的關係，簽訂各種醫療合約，彼此聯絡支援，為著埔基成為區域教學醫院、社區百姓健康福祉的目標努力。
首先我要向埔基從始至今眾多幕後的無名英雄致敬！
感謝醫院給我機會提供院史小組本院合約（契約）資料，整理埔基從無到有過程產生的合作關係簽訂合約、事件備忘錄等紀錄。為了真實呈現當時的事件發生過程，這段期間一直都在思索及翻找早期的資料，足以形容我對這次院史專案的重視。我感覺彷彿坐時光機回到過去草創期的埔基，也慚愧自己身為埔基人二十多年，現在才知道早期這片土地叫「烏牛欄」，也藉由這次的機會，讓我重新認識創立埔基的英雄們，包括孫理蓮宣教師、謝緯醫師、徐賓諾宣教師與紀歐惠醫師，這幾位對埔基非常有貢獻的偉人。
謝謝你們的無私付出，埔基才能逐漸走向區域級教學醫院的光景。
